Family Clay Sunday

The Friends of the Visual Arts are very proud to announce that as of January 11, 2009, we have brought back a Salem tradition: Family Clay Sunday!

This is our most requested program! We're so glad that our new studio has finally grown enough to offer this activity to our community. Special thanks to the City of Salem Cultural and Tourism Promotions Advisory Board, for providing Operations Grant funding to support this program.

Family Clay Sunday will resume in September!

Between the WAC's summer camps and other special weekend activities at the Fairgrounds, FCS has to close for the summer. If you made pieces at FCS, please come in and pick them up! You'll have chances to glaze your unfinished work when FCS starts back up in the fall.

Our Fall Family Clay projects will include:

DateActivity
Sept 26Animal Rattle
Oct 3Self-Portrait in Clay
Oct 10Halloween Ghost
Oct 17Jack-o-Lantern Lumiary
Oct 24Picture Frame
Nov 7Coil Vase
Nov 14Cornucopia/Horn of Plenty

How it Works

  1. Bring the whole family to the WAC on Sundays any time between 1:00 and 4:00 PM.
  2. Pay your entry fee of $10 per family of four (extra kids are $2 each).
  3. Everybody get some clay, and instructions for the project du jour.
  4. Find a spot at the tables and Do Some Art together!

Our instructors will be roaming around to help you with your project. We'll fire your work in our kiln (there's no extra charge for firing). Choose between working on the current project or glazing your earlier works.
