The Glass Blowing Studio

The Willamette Art Center is proud to offer Salem's first and only community facilities for Glass Blowing.

Hot Shop Equipment and Supplies

The art of Glass Blowing requires a lot of large, specialized equipment that is not easily accessible for the average person. Our studio provides:

  • 100 lb electric glass furnace
  • Large electric annealing kiln
  • Two natural gas reheating furnaces ("Glory Holes")
  • Two glassblowers benches
  • Large steel marvering table
  • Selection of blowpipes and punties
  • Basic tools (jacks, shears, etc.)
  • Sales gallery featuring our members' artwork

Clear glass is provided for classes. Students who wish to use color must purchase frits from outside sources. There are several glass frit sellers in Portland.

We currently do not offer studio passes for the glass equipment. Use of the glass studio is restricted to scheduled classes and workshops. We hope to offer more regular access to experienced artists as this program grows. Please contact the WAC if you would be interested in using the glass studio, so we can plan and coordinate future studio passes!

Thank You, Grantors!

The WAC extends a special thanks to the Meyer Memorial Trust and the Marion Cultural Development Corporation for their generous grants in support of our Glassblowing Hot Shop. Their donations made not only our Glassblowing Program possible, they also add to the fun and safety of the Artisan's Village at the State Fair.
