We are going to try and schedule another pit firing at the Center and hopefully the weather will oblige us this time. Those interested should bring their bisque ware to the studio where we will provide glazes, chemicals and copper for decoration. You may bring as much bisque ware as we can fit in the pit and still allow everyone to have an equal amount to fire. Bringing some firewood is a plus. The Center will provide coffee, cookies or donuts; however, you are encouraged to bring your own beverages if you care to.

The Raku class will focus mainly on firing and surface decoration experimentation. Clay building demos and slips for surface decorations will enhance your work. Adding horsehair, feathers, copper and glass as alternatives or additives will make for unique work.

Explore the basic skills of wheel throwing and glazing. Students will also use the slab roller and extruder to make hand built pieces. We will have you making plates, mugs, and bowls in no time at all. No experience is necessary.

In this class we start with two pinch pot balls and make sculptural pieces of art that will add a touch of whimsy to any home or garden. All experience levels welcome. Participants will need basic tools, if any.

This class will cover basic sculptural techniques. Learn how to build hollow sculptural forms using methods like: coiling, slab construction, pinching, attaching pieces, and the use of armatures. Tools used for sculpture will be demonstrated. Textural surface treatments and sculpture finishing with oxides and patinas will also be presented. No experience is necessary.

This class focuses on hand-built functional and decorative pieces. Students will use a variety of techniques (slab, extruded, and coil construction) and explore texture mats and stamps to create unique pieces for home and garden.

Whether you are new to watercolor or skilled in other mediums, you will find the beauty of watercolors cannot be denied or ignored. Each class begins with a tutorial of easy step-by-step techniques and tips. Students then complete a painting using learned techniques with individual help and support. Come create functional and sculptural art for your home and garden. You will build in a variety of techniques using the slab roller, extruders, balloons and molds. Join us this spring for a sculpture/hand building class. Our focus in sculpture is having fun. We begin with simple figures and progress to more complex forms as we become familiar with slab and coil building techniques. The techniques used in sculpture can be applied to any hand building project. Don’t worry if you don’t have an idea of what you want to make because the projects we start with to learn techniques will inspire possibilities for self-expression through clay. Come have fun with us. Some experience working with clay is handy, but not essential.

Thursday: $175 for 8 weeks.

Explore a variety of methods for decorating and glazing your pots.
