Rollie Smith Featured Artist
Rollie Smith is the featured artist at the Oaks Gallery from November 14 to December 31st. This is Rollies artist’s statement:
Art has always been a part of my life. My father was a self taught painter, and my mother was an avid crafter. I have always enjoyed “making” both art and utilitarian objects. Ceramics allows me to do both.
Although I worked as a slip caster in high school, I didn’t really start working in clay until 2013. Since then I have been exploring both hand building and wheel work. The influences of the instructors and fellow artists at the WAC are readily apparent to me: both in terms of technical attributes and expression. I can also see the influences of my years of museum going, traveling, camping, gardening, marriage, spiritual exploration etc. All of it comes forward in my work.
I offer a hearty thank you to all the artists at the WAC, my family, and Leni for supporting my ability to produce this work.
