Important Dates

We are approaching some crucial deadlines and want to be sure that you are in the know! Please do not request exceptions. Our timeline is short, and we have a lot of packing to do in the coming weeks.

Kudos to all our potters for the excellent work coming out of the kilns, and especially to Doug Dacar for efficiently handling the large volume of work.

June 2 is when shelves (classes and open studio) will be cleared of greenware on June 2. We stopped accepting greenware on May 26. The final loads of bisque will be available on June 2.

June 9 is the last day to put your glazed work on the carts for firing. If this isn’t possible, consider donating unglazed bisque ware to the “Get Fired Up!” fundraiser by May 29. A monitor can help you with this donation.

June 14 is the last day to remove personal possessions, tools and clay from the studio. Items left behind will be discarded.

~ Many thanks from the WAC staff and monitors

Frequently asked questions

Updated April 5, 2025

The current situation

Q: Will the WAC permanently close on July 1?

The Willamette Art Center board has no plans to shutter the organization permanently. Finding a new location remains the top priority. We do expect some down time while we find a new location and prepare it to serve as a center.

Q. How can I help support the WAC’s move to a new location?
A. We will need both funds and volunteers!

Q. What is the timing for the move?
A. Right now, we need to leave the building before July. We have received approval to keep the Bailey kiln where it is until we find a new location.

Q. How will the move affect various grant requests already submitted for 2025?
A. We have reviewed our various grant applications and will notify grantors of our new situation as necessary.

Location ideas

Q: What about the Willamette Heritage Center?
A. We love this cultural partner, but their facilities just don’t have enough room for us. See the Properties visisted list.

WAC operations

Q. How will this move affect classes at WAC?
A. Our spring classes will run in April and May. Ideally, we will be able to resume classes in the fall. Holding classes will depend on when we find a new location and how quickly we and build it out to accomodate classes.

Q. How will this affect our annual events?
A. We will put most events on hiatus for 2025.

Miscellaneous

Q: Will we be taking the shed that was donated to WAC?
A. It depends on the new location’s suitability for outbuildings. If we don’t take it, we will likely sell it.
