Kevin started his clay journey at an early age watching his mother glaze and decorate ceramic figurines in their basement studio. He started taking pottery classes in school and soon began teaching summer children’s classes; took part in an apprenticeship program with a master potter; and entered a piece at the state fair and won 1st place in amateur pottery. At the age of 20, Kevin became the youngest Artist in Residence for the Oregon Arts Commission. He worked at inner city schools in Portland for two years. Kevin has taken numerous workshops from renowned ceramic artists such as Toshiko Takeazu, Betty Feves, Don Hosskison, Stephen Hills, and many others. Kevin has taught for the Salem Art Association and currently teaches at the Willamette Art Center. His work is sometimes concise and occasionally spontaneous and organic. He enjoys mixing wood and other materials into his work and mixes local clay and wood to create unusual glaze effects.
