Come create functional and sculptural art for your home and garden. You will build in a variety of techniques using the slab roller, extruders, balloons and molds. Bird baths, totems, plant stakes, fountains, garden stones, flower vases and pots are just a few of the possibilities. One or two classes will include a hypertufa project. Want to expand your working ceramic vocabulary? Paper clay has endless possibilities. Cellulose fibers mixed with any clay harden, then fired and glazed. This material pushes the ceramic boundaries. You will build in solid and slip clay. Other materials bond well and can be fired with paper clay. Wet clay including paper clay bonds to bisque. Yes, it’s magic. Six ways to handle a mug!
Students will learn how to make hand-built, pulled and loop tool handles. Explore fit and ergonomics of handles. How to attach handles.
Bring the most comfortable mug from your kitchen for group discussion or ergonomics, function and aesthetics. Students will practice making multiple handles (clay provided), then attach one to a leather-hard mug provided by instructor.
Materials are provided. Limited to 10 students age 18 years and older.
$20 for 1 day. Workshop proceeds support Willamette Art Center’s scholarship fund.
