Students will explore more challenging throwing techniques and pottery forms, as well as design and glazing techniques. Altering thrown forms and texturing will be explored. Students must be proficient in centering clay.

Students will make projects using hand building techniques of coil, pinch and slab. The projects will vary from animal figures to functional wares. Enrollees do not need any previous clay experience. Spring is here and its time to start creating art for your garden space! This class is intended for beginning students and beyond. Each week we will explore a new project that you can incorporate into your garden area. These projects include planters, wind chimes, luminaries & much more. Instructor will demo each project, and will guide you in building yours so that you can put your own unique spin on it!

Want to expand your working ceramic vocabulary? Paper clay has endless possibilities. Cellulose fibers mixed with any clay harden, then fired and glazed. This material pushes the ceramic boundaries. You will build in solid and slip clay. Other materials bond well and can be fired with paper clay. Wet clay including paper clay bonds to bisque. Yes, it’s magic. Make a drum! Participants will receive a bisqueware drum. They will glaze and raku fire the drum then attach the drumhead during the first day of the workshop. The second day will involve finishing the drum and trying it out. All materials to complete a drum will be provided as well as a demonstration on throwing a drum barrel.

Join us as we experiment with a variety of art processes that will include mindful-clay-sculpt and scribble art. Fire up your creativity on Mother’s Day! Join us for the 1st Annual Willamette Art Center “Moms Do Clay Day.” Learn something new and create a “Buddy Vase or Planter,” a unique pottery piece to be cherished for years to come. Our instructors will walk you through simple techniques – no skill or experience necessary. Invite a friend and/or your mom, sister, aunt, grandmother too. The work you make will be glazed, fired and ready within about 2 weeks. Gift cards are available – makes a great Mother’s Day gift.

Join Dana Field for a fun, interactive workshop. Dana will demonstrate wiggle wire texturing techniques. She will guide students through the process as they complete their choice of several handbuilt and thrown projects.
Project #1: Make a tumbler from a textured slab.
Project #2: Make a textured facet-cut vase.
Project #3: Make a mug or bowl with stretched texture.
Participants must have completed a beginning handbuilding or wheel class. Dana is donating her fee to the WAC Scholarship Fund.
